Elly O Keeffe

Elly O Keeffe to appear in Kiltha Trad Fest in Castlemartyr

I was speaking this week to Cork singer song writer Elly O Keeffe who was taking a few days break before appearance on Friday the 3rd in Castlemartyr for the Kilta Trad Fest Festival organised by our very own Pat Short from Shorts bar. She will be playing before the American band "The O's" and is looking forward to it. On the night she will be joined on stage by friends and fellow musicians, Noel Barrett on bass guitar, Eoin O Regan on guitar and Cellist Aisling Fitzpatrick, Elly said that she was at the festival last year and she had great craic there was so much fun and the music was amazing so this year when Pat Short asked me to perform at it I didn’t hesitate.

The organising that goes into it is amazing from Pat, Mike Hanrahan who works with Pat down, everyone gets so involved to make it a great weekend. It's a lovely bar and I play there throughout the year, so this year I am chuffed to be part of the bill.

I asked Elly, how were things going, since we spoke last. She told me that her new album was going really well, she mentioned that she was doing it all herself as she didn’t have a record company, labels or management behind her. It was a lot of work and even after she recorded the album she then had to tour it for about six months promoting it and playing it at gigs around the country. When that stint was over she then took some time out for a while to get her batteries recharged so to speak, and just before Christmas this year she started touring again and has been flying it ever since.

Recent gigs around the country Galway, Clonakilty and in Brighton in England have kept her busy, one recent gig in The NEC Centre in Killarney went really well and she has lots lined up for the rest of the summer, She has one coming up in Cork at the end of August and in the meantime has a few in more dates lined up in England. She is currently going back and forward to London where she is recording new material and has a gig in the world famous Troubadour Venue in London, coming up in the next few weeks which looks promising for this rising star.

Elly will be on the guest list for The Marine sessions organised by Youghal local Claire Regan in September so keep an eye out for that it should be a good night indeed. If you want to keep track of Elly and see where she is playing you can check her out on Facebook or MySpace where she has her page and her new single Paranoia is available on iTunes to buy. Her current album is on sale in Cork in Directors cut & Club records as well as being available on iTunes.
